What is Bright Futures

A video description of the important work of the Bright Futures team.

Bright Futures is a program of Ingraham’s parent/teacher organization, Friends of Ingraham (FOI) that works to increase opportunities and reduce barriers for Ingraham High School students who are experiencing poverty or homelessness/housing insecurity.

By funding basic needs such as food, clothing, and rent assistance and experiential needs like sports uniforms, graduation caps and gowns, prom, and yearbooks. Our goal is to help all students equitably access their education and inclusively participate in the Ingraham community.

Bright Futures launched at the 2016-17 Friends of Ingraham Annual Auction, with the goal of providing resources that would help the IHS Counseling team more comprehensively support students. Check out this video from an older auction. Some of our staff leadership has changed but the needs continue to be the same! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b4oYj0ZJHU

How it works

Through monthly committee meetings, FOI parent volunteers along with Ingraham’s Counseling Team, Staff and Administrator Reps, allocate budgeted funds, discuss critical needs, and plan for future supports.

Ingraham generously dedicates an entire classroom to our Pride Closet, which is kept stocked with toiletries, gently used clothing, new socks, shoes, coats, academic supplies and Ingraham Spirit Gear.

In community partnership with University District Food Bank, we distribute supplemental food backpacks every week for upwards of 150 families.

The committee organizes drives with student athletic, academic, music and social interest groups throughout the year. These drives help restock needed supplies to the Pride Closet, healthy snacks for the counseling office and help bring student awareness to their peer community.

We continue to seek future community partnerships and grant writing experts to supplement funding for these never-ending needs.
