Volunteer requirements this year we need you!

IHS Needs YOU!

Are you interested in helping students achieve higher grades and giving staff and educators more time to support students? If your answer is YES, then consider becoming a volunteer.

There are new volunteer requirements this year based on the supervision setting of the volunteer role. If you have volunteered in the past two years you may update your registration online. You may not participate in volunteer activities unless you have completed the registration. Please see below for a description of the two categories.

Category A Volunteer: All school and remote volunteer roles that support the school, staff or families; can include direct student contact if the volunteer is supervised. District personnel must be on site and within view if the volunteer will interact with students. Alternatively, another adult approved SPS volunteer must participate in the activity and be present at all times. Examples: classroom or library assistance, field trip planning, office or recess support, school newsletter editor, family tech support volunteer.

Category B Volunteer: All school and remote volunteer roles that involve unsupervised contact with students. Examples: math club coach, breakout room facilitator (in a virtual classroom), one-on-one tutor (including remote/virtual), mentor.

Please sign up to be a volunteer at https://www.seattleschools.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=627&pageId=58314790 and choose the applicable category. If you have volunteered at SPS within the past two years, you may update your registration online. Please note that Category B volunteers must complete the national background check. When completing your volunteer application, select "2. I have lived in Washington State for the past 3 years but would like to purchase a national background check." There is a $21 fee associated with the background check. If the fee is a barrier to participate as a Category B volunteer, please let us know. There is an urgent need for Category B volunteers to assist with tutoring.

Thank you for supporting students, staff and educators in a year like no other. Please contact ingrahamvol@gmail.comwith any questions.
